Up until now, my life had been safe, but apparently there were invisible forces and currents that could change everything in an instant. For it seemed that there were families that were spared by fate and others that were drawn to misfortune, and that night I asked myself if my family could be like that too.

Jules’s childhood – like that of his sister Liz and brother Marty’s – is happy until their parents die in a car accident. The following years at boarding school shape each of them in their own way, and life scatters them around the world. As adults, they seem to have overcome this blow of fate. But then the past appears.
