In 1980s Yugoslavia, Emine marries a violent man she has only met once. They flee the country after the war. Their son Bekim grows up in Helsinki. He is lonely and rejected until he meets a strange cat in a bar who takes him on a journey into the disturbing recesses of the past. "My Cat Yugoslavia" is a story about hopes and shattered illusions, war and exile, and the search for identity and belonging. The work won the Helsingin Sanomat debut prize in 2014.
