The Guns of Navarone (1957) is a war story about five men who are united by a common enemy. They are sent to Navarone, where they must neutralize a dangerous weapon. However, the path to the mission's destination is extremely difficult and life-threateningly difficult - they have to cross a cliff that even professional rock climbers struggle with. Putting aside personal differences and contradictions, the members of the unit must overcome their fears and misgivings. MacLean leads the reader and his team through an exciting journey, creating a tense atmosphere and only letting go of the reins on the last page of the book. This is not just a light novel, but a truly realistic story.

Scottish-born writer Alistair Stuart MacLean (1922–1987) gained fame primarily for his exciting adventure novels. MacLean spent the years 1941–1946 on the battlefields, where the experiences he gained are also reflected in the writer's gripping stories.

Several of MacLean's novels have also inspired filmmakers - including "The Guns of Navarone", which was nominated for seven Oscars and won one for special effects.
