Planes fly just over our house, so that the chandeliers and glass shelves at home rattle rhythmically. This constant reminder of being in the heart of Western Europe is balanced by the neighbors' passion for chickens. The roosters wake up early and ceremoniously. In the park, an old woman tirelessly throws a stick at a tree. It turns out that completely edible walnuts grow there. This is a fantastic illustration of Belgian life, which is full of enjoyable oddities.
I am also starting an independent life - along with the love of life - along with my studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. We sip simple milk soup at a table made from wine crates, but a restaurant-sized chandelier hangs from the high ceiling of each room. Estonians get along very well with Belgians, because we are equally odd. Estonians simply do not wear their oddities with such pride. Lesson learned!
