Our dream destination is a deserted beach with white sand, far from everyday stress. In the book «Welcome to Paradise», Jennie Dielemans traces the movement of modern tourism - from the birth of mass tourism in Gran Canaria to the popular charter destination of today, Tai. Together with photographer Shahab Saleh, he has met with environmental lawyers in Mexico, tourism workers in the slums of the Dominican Republic, and Burmese refugees building hotels in Thailand. They have watched backpackers looking for traces of the war in Vietnam, talked to sex tourists in Phuket and walked in a human zoo.
Jennie Dielemans (born 1972) is a renowned Swedish journalist. His first novel «Hästi, täntan, ja teil» was published in 2006 and was chosen as the best novel of the year by the readers of «Stockholm Reads».
