The effect of ultraviolet radiation on human health depends on the
irradiance density/dose: with low radiation, vitamin D is not synthesized sufficiently and the skeleton can be damaged, strong radiation can damage the skin and cause skin cancer.
The book describes studies of solar ultraviolet radiation and atmospheric ozone in the world and in Estonia and presents the results obtained over the past few decades. Changes in the thickness of the ozone layer so far and in the future are discussed, optical radiation measurement methods are touched upon, and recommendations for sunbathers are shared.
