Cloud mushrooms are among the most common and well-known mushrooms in Estonia and are also highly valued as edible mushrooms. Unfortunately, so far more than the family is known about the clouded owls, the recognition of the species has been left in the background due to their great variability and difficulty in determination. With this book, this gap is filled by our most meritorious nebula researcher T. Leisner, who has devoted nearly 40 years to the study of nebulae. It is enormously difficult to compile an absolutely available determination table for the types of clouds in all their colorful variability. Therefore, no mushroom lover should be upset if the species to be determined does not come out in the first go and it is necessary to use a more time-consuming and labor-intensive comparative method in the form of studying the description of several species, while also having access to additional literature. However, there are good key features in the descriptions of most of the species, which are written down by the author very aptly and with great expertise, and are therefore excellent points of reference for species recognition.
Despite the rather thorough inventory of the Estonian cloudworms during such a long period of time, the possibility of finding new species is still not excluded. Therefore, we would be grateful if any suspicious find, which does not want to fit any given species description, would be reported to Tartu, ENSV TA Institute of Zoology and Botany (of course with an exact description, spore powder impression and location data, if possible also with dried fruiting bodies).
