The Estonian people have always been fond of jokes and laughter. Jokes and anecdotes have accompanied them through all ages, even when exhausting work, meager food, injustice and oppression should not have stimulated the laughter muscles. But who knows, maybe it was precisely from this that they gained strength and maybe laughter was the thing that kept them going despite everything.

This collection contains a selection of jokes and caricatures that appeared during Estonia's first independence, as well as in the years preceding it.
