The events of the Patriotic War of 1812 were unfolding near Estonia. The suburbs of Riga burned, bloody battles took place in Kurzeme. Thousands of men from Estonia and Latvia also defended the country against the enemy invasion as soldiers or militiamen. Together with other peoples of Russia, Estonians and Latvians had to give ammunition, equipment, horses and, most dearly, people for the sake of victory.
Based on materials from several archives of the USSR, Rein Helme examines the complex history of 1812 in Estonia and Latvia for the first time in his monograph.
The book is intended for all history enthusiasts.
