Marcin Świetlicki (b. 1961) is one of the best-known and most distinctive writers of the Polish middle generation. Already a recognized poet, he debuted in the novel genre in 2006, and did so with great success – “Twelve” was recognized as the best crime novel in Poland that same year and became a cult book. The action takes place in the gloomy and magical Krakow, the main character is a master, a detective by chance, a man who has no ID card, mobile phone, driving license or bank account.
“Twelve” is the first part of the master’s trilogy. It was followed by “Thirteen” (2007) and “Eleven” (2008). The latter received the prestigious Gdynia Literary Prize in 2009.
