Maiju Lassila's story "Loaning Firecrackers" is set in a remote rural Finland, where one farm is several kilometers away from another, and where connections with the outside world are limited only to the nearest town. The characters in the story are people who are tied hand and foot to their own dwarf property, which dictates to them how to behave, what to desire, how to organize their lives, and what to demand from other people.
The author alternates satire with humor, and here he is more often a humorist than a satirist.
