The work tells the story of two great Estonian men, their lives and statesmanship in the creation and organization of the Republic of Estonia. Jaan Tõnisson and Konstantin Päts were political opponents. The first was an idealist, a giver of ideas, a political fighter who did not favor compromises; the second was a pragmatist, a calm and wise activist who was ready to cooperate even with dissenters. However, both were sharp-witted, talented politicians, strong personalities who did not back down in the face of great difficulties. By getting to know the lives of Tõnisson and Päts, the reader also gets an overview of the historical events in Estonia at that time.
