On my way home, I met a man behind the gate whom I had seen already during the day, bustling around the house. I had talked to him a little then. Now he said to me: "You called me master before. Don't do that again."
"Is that a crime?"
"There is a mistress in this house."
Intonation and facial expressions said more than words.
"But how do I call you?"
He glanced at me slyly from under his crooked nose and replied: "To the children, I am Mau. Not tall or hairy, maybe I can fit in your mouth too."
"They say that the mouth of the children speaks the truth."
"As long as they eat porridge," he replied with a smile, shrugged his right shoulder and walked away, his left hand deep in his trouser pocket.
