In the work "Watching the Wandering Clouds", Luts tells about his first school winter at the Koihelkonnakooli in Palamus (1895/96) and in 1896. of the sad events of spring. The writer does not talk about the remaining three years of study at Palamus, for a reason, thus avoiding repetition and stretching. Luts has also avoided repetition in other respects. In this work, the flight of the author's thoughts moves in the environment depicted already 20 years ago, in the spring of action. However, these two works have little in common. It's unfortunate, but it's also a credit to the writer.
The memory book "Under the golden leaves" continues the story of 1899. from the summer (having previously hinted at other academic years at Palamus with a few sentences). Luts first talks about his efforts to get into a city school, then about his studies at Tartu real school and ends with a joyful mood in 1900. on a summer evening.
