It's summer and 9-year-old Sven has to go to camp. At first, the idea seems terrifying to him. Sven takes his pet rat Halvorsen with him in his arms, who no one can know about. At one point, however, Halvorsen disappears and only appears in the girls' bedroom...
The story is lively and humorous. Camp life is fun: they eat pancakes with sugar, splash around in the ice-cold sea water, and organize football matches. But there is also a boy there who likes to tease others. Sven, who at first glance seems modest and even timid, turns out to be a brave opponent.
Norwegian writer Marit Nicolaysen (1953) has written fifteen books for children about Sven and his rat. The books are popular in Norway, and two feature films have been made based on them. Sven stories have been translated into several European languages.
The pictures are drawn by the renowned Norwegian graphic artist and illustrator Per Dybvig (1964). His free, playful, and slightly wild drawing style fits perfectly with the text.
