Strangely enough, we have so far lacked a comprehensive history of Estonian children's literature in texts. This multi-volume anthology of Estonian children's literature tries for the first time to put together the colorful mosaic that our national children's literature represents today, text and author by author.

The first volume of the anthology introduced the reader to examples of folk poetry suitable for reading to children. The second volume mapped the literary landscape of our children's literature before and after birth. Closing this volume, we can confirm that the original Estonian children's literature was quite complete by the end of the 19th century. Now it was up to the Estonians to keep it and promote it with care. This is how the third volume of the anthology introduced the development of our children's literature until 1917. The fourth volume that you are holding in your hands now introduces the original children's literature that reached the hands of the young reader in the first decade of the Republic of Estonia - that is, in the twenties.

Therefore, the anthology that continues with this book is a real guide to Estonian children's literature for all those interested in reading, both children and adults, students and teachers, not to mention children's literature researchers.
