Fantoomplatvorm - Andres Lõo

"Phantom Platform" is a summary of Andres Lõo’s fifteen-year artistic journey, an articulation of his key works, and a consolidation of his stance as an artist; it serves as a tool—a platform—from which he aims to project future art (and the metrics and means of its operation) from the present into the future, drawing on examples of his own development and body of work. The book deliberately avoids the traditional catalogue format, functioning instead more as an artist’s statement. At the same time, it offers a portrait of a young artist who emerged and worked during the 2000s, his development paralleling the formation and maturation of the young state. Lõo is, among other things, one of those who introduced the concept of contemporary sound art to the local scene and a prime example of the multimedia artist so characteristic of 21st-century art and cultural creation. Lõo derived the term "phantom platform" by adapting the concept of the "phantom limb," a phenomenon well-known to neurologists. According to Lõo, the phantom platform is a kind of "secret agenda"—an indefinable yet instrumental idea—towards which every artist strives while creating their own distinctive works. In addition to an extensive essay and illustrations, the book includes a comprehensive interview, a basic glossary, and essays by Kiwa, Hanno Soans, and Lõo himself. The texts are accompanied by illustrations of Lõo’s most significant works and appearances.
