Tallinna surmatants - Mai Lumiste

Dance of death, tempera and oil mixed technique painting on a 160 X 750 centimeter canvas.

It is not a complete painting, but luckily, it is the preserved beginning piece of what used to be an unusually long composition, on which representatives of all medieval states were painted, a total of 48-50 human and death figures.

The painting fragment has the first 13 figures: the preacher, Death blowing the pipe, Death carrying the sceptre, Pope, Death, Emperor, Death, King and Death.

The main character of the painting is Death, all-conquering and merciless, who equally unhindered takes with him the powerful as well as the poor and the poor.
