In 1900, Miranda Cunningham, an elegant New York socialite, sets sail for England to meet her archaeologist husband. Along with her is his beautiful, spoiled, and very wealthy niece, Cynthia, whose sole purpose is to find a titled husband in Europe. On the ship, they meet Louisa "Kitt" McAllister, a modern and independent young woman who is traveling to discover the world. However, all these women, with different outlooks on life, are destined to fall in love with the same man.
Author Leona Blair is interested in the motives of women's behavior, their social status, and the restrictions placed on them.
