Over the centuries, thousands of teachers have worked in the Estonian school field. The EKBL covers only a small part of them. The keyword dictionary included teachers whose activities went beyond everyday teaching work, were related to school literature or some other pedagogical activity that attracted wider attention. The dictionary contains 679 personal articles, 256 of which have been accompanied by a portrait. These 679 include teachers from different times: schoolmasters from the early days of the Estonian school, the first Estonian intellectuals and figures of the national awakening, as well as teachers of general education and vocational schools of the current century and lecturers of universities, mainly those whose pedagogical activities have already ended. In the dictionary, the reader will also find well-known scientists, public figures and artists who have dedicated only part of their life's work to the school, the "salt of the earth" of all times, whose example and ideas have been guiding the development of Estonian education and culture.
