Over the last decade, interest in beekeeping has grown significantly. A generational shift is taking place in the beekeeping sector, with many young people seeking to get a little closer to nature by caring for these insects—creatures that may seem somewhat mysterious from a distance, and which, while providing sweet honey, can also deliver a very painful sting. *The Beekeeper’s Primer* (*Mesiniku aabits*) is intended for the hobbyist beekeeper starting from scratch with 3–5 colonies.
The book consists of six chapters—structured as a series of sequential "learning days"—that focus on the life cycle of bee colonies and the key moments for their care throughout the year. A great deal of attention is devoted to bee biology; understanding this is essential for making informed decisions about managing one’s own colonies, and it also helps in better grasping the teachings and experiences shared by other beekeepers. My hope is that all readers will come to appreciate the importance of acquiring theoretical knowledge—knowledge which, when applied in practice, creates rewarding experiences and fosters a greater sense of confidence and responsibility in beekeeping.
