The first Estonians to receive a school education were supposedly the monk Nicolaus, who worked as a missionary in Estonia in the 1170s, Wesselin, the bishop of Tallinn in the years 1219-1226, and, as is known, Johannes, who worked as a parish priest among the Livonians at the beginning of the 13th century (until 1206).
