The novel "Keegi ei kuule meid" by Valev Uibopuu (b. 1913), an Estonian writer living in Sweden, describes the life of a small Estonian town from the beginning of the Second World War to the end of the first Soviet occupation. The focus is on the change of people and human relations as the occupation deepens. The main character Jaan Riivik withdraws from public life at the beginning of the occupation, observing everything that is happening - the humiliation and death of people, the replacement of the feeling of peace in the small town with suspicion and fear - from the position of a bystander.
