Aja vaimud. Kirjutisi 1996-2009

David Vseviov, D.Phil., is a professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts and the author of the radio series "Mystical Russia" (*Müstiline Venemaa*), as well as the books *Byzantine Emperors* (2004), *Russia – Near and Far* I & II (co-authored with Vladimir Sergeyev, 2002, 2007), and various school history textbooks. He was honored with the Republic of Estonia’s Cultural Award in 2004 and the Aadu Luukas Mission Award in 2008.

This book brings together around a hundred articles, 14 essays, and 34 reviews by historian David Vseviov, originally published in periodicals between 1996 and 2009. It invites us to observe what the "spirits of the times" have done to these texts—what they have largely destroyed and what they have preserved.
A favorite among countless readers and listeners, David Vseviov possesses a rare gift as a historian: the ability to play with historical details to forge surprising connections and articulate simple truths that, for some reason, had not occurred to us before. He narrates, weighs, and explains history in his signature calm and genial manner—yet, as a person of keen sensitivity, he sometimes does so with a touch of concern or delightful irony.
This collection is published to mark the esteemed historian’s jubilee.
