In the poetry of Ovsei Driz (1908-1971), we find the sly notes of the humor of the pre-revolutionary Jewish poor, the happy and sad notes of folk songs. The poet has not learned about the people's life through books, not because he grew up in the company of village blacksmiths, ploughmen, sharpeners and tailors, he also knew many jobs well. He liked to live in the middle of fields and forests, in dusty kolka villages and in big, proud cities.
