Isade maa - August Gailit

"The Land of the Fathers" deals with the heroic struggle of the Estonians against the Bolsheviks, the War of Independence from its beginning to the Landesveer.

"The Land of the Fathers" differs completely in its composition from other novels published so far based on the subject of the War of Independence. Here the author descends into the description of serious battle scenes and presents them with unexpected poignancy and clarity. These battle scenes and images reflecting the lives of soldiers at the front are often spiced up, in addition to interesting types of soldiers, by even more interesting anecdotal soldier stories.

This novel is a blend of tragedy and comedy, which shows how in such serious circumstances as war is, there is still an immense amount of humor.
