Far away in the vastness of the North Atlantic lies a lonely island, over which rises Mägi, an active volcano. The only inhabitants of the island are eighteen weather station workers, who are only allowed to work two shifts on the island, for a total of one year, due to the harsh natural conditions. The protagonist of the novel, Sverre Hansen, a young meteorologist, ends up on the island unintentionally and experiences various mental and physical trials while there. The novel is written in the first person, the events are reflected through the eyes of a young man.
The strange name “kivitok” in the context of the novel means a person who has been spurned in love.
The island exists in reality, the descriptions of its nature and history are true, but all the characters and the entire plot are invented by the author.
The novel has points of contact with the work “Kauge” by the same author, published in 2012.
