Harri Asi (b. 1922), living in Calgary, Canada, has published several poetry collections and one novel in exile. This, his only novel, was awarded the Henrik Visnapuu literary award, which was awarded by the jury as follows:
"Harri As's novel "After the Explosion" is a literary and artistically mature work, the style of which is finely crafted and the composition is modernly open and dense. With the perception of a good psychologist, the novel multifacetedly depicts the inner world, development and self-discovery of a young World War II prisoner of war - a poet at the same time, sometimes using direct visual symbolism. Seen from the spectrum of one person, a series of other interesting and peculiar characters take shape in the novel, whose depiction is characterized by a spontaneous, powerful fantasy. This is a heavy and restless book, the bearer of which is a searching person with his searches and meditations about existence, war, and alternates with poetically lyrical images, the depiction of which speaks to the sensitivity of the poet Harri As, as well as the powerful impulsiveness.»
