Lohelausuja - Anzori Barkalaja

Previously known mainly as a writer of song lyrics, the author has taken a walk along the paths of language without the help of music. In this mature and classic debut collection of poetry, love lyrics, nature poetry and, at times, more specific social reflections are fearlessly and shamelessly intertwined.

Yet nature dominates everything and everyone in the poems. Other human beings are also approached here primarily through well-perceived depictions of nature. This is a sufficiently unexpected approach against the backdrop of the alienated urban tragedy of contemporary Estonian poetry, a poetic and at the same time appreciably youthful rendezvous that lasts through rainstorms and sunrises.

Here, the reader is always invited to fly above everyday life like a Shelley lark and strive vigorously deeper in human relationships, and always and above all – to be fascinated by all the surrounding beauty. Anyone who bothers to peer behind the layers of metaphorical curtains of nature images will find touching references to universal human beings, which today are worth awakening within oneself from time to time.
