The film tells the story of the tragic and romantic life of one of Estonia's most beloved composers, Raimond Valgre, in the 1930s and 1940s. The story takes the viewer to an era when the changing political order did not consider his love songs to be suitable for the Soviet way of life. The film is full of Raimond Valgre's immortal music. In 1993, the film attracted over 58,000 viewers in Estonian cinemas and became the first Oscar nominee for a film from the restored Republic of Estonia.
