Woody Allen is a name that needs no introduction in Estonia. Although known here mainly as a film director and actor (his films «Annie Hall», «Manhattan», «Men and women», «Päikesepoisid», «Almighty Afrodite» etc. have been shown on Estonian TV channels), Allen has also found recognition as a writer of his own, publishing three collections of short stories, aphorisms and plays: «Side Effects», «Without Feathers» and «Getting Even».

In Estonian, they appear between the common covers and under the heading «Invoicing». Although written in 1965-80, Allen's prose is a timeless classic, unique in its cynicism and wit, with a slightly gloomy and sometimes romantic undertone.

For Allen, nothing is sacred: he wittily dissects eternal themes that have also resonated in his films: death, God (or lack of God), women (or lack thereof), intellectuality, art, different religions, etc.
