Leht ja puu

The author of the fairy tales included in this book, the renowned English writer and linguist John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973), is familiar to Estonian readers with his story "The Dwarf" and the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings".

The first two stories in the collection, "The Leaf and the Tree" and "The Blacksmith of Great Wootton", have a philosophical subtext, revealing the nature of artistic creation and inspiration and its importance to the creator himself and the world. The third, "The Farmer Giles Ham", wittyly parodies medieval stories of knights killing dragons.
