Ossum-Possum, pannkoogielukas

“Actually, I came to tell you about Ossum-Possum,” the girl announced with her mouth full. “Otherwise you’ll sit and agonize until Michaelmas and never get past writing my name.”

“About whom?” I couldn’t believe my ears.

“Ossum-Possum, the pancake creature.”

“What kind of creature is that?”

“Ossum-Possums are creatures that eat pancakes,” the girl explained obligingly.

“You eat pancakes too,” I argued.

“You don’t understand,” the girl shook her head. “I eat jam too.”

“But pancake creatures don’t eat?” I asked incredulously.

“No. I won’t,” the girl smiled openly.
