My name is Paula Grieg. My inner balance came at a high price: the breakdown of my family; the loss of friends, home, career, and status; and a life of constant emigration that has taken me to five continents and more than 50 countries.
In writing about my experiences, I wanted to show what it means to be a transsexual in the early 21st century. Writing has helped give meaning to my life, and I hope it will lower the barriers between people by fostering an understanding of the challenges transsexuals face—and by raising awareness that they, too, can lead—and indeed do lead—perfectly normal lives.
