The book, which was prepared together with the EKA Museum exhibition “Invisible Monumental Painting” in the EKA Gallery, provides for the first time an overview of the monumental art created by painting students in the years 1962–1995. The EKA Museum’s exciting collection of monumental painting designs is introduced, which contains conceptual solutions for the execution of various works in fresco and sgraffito, mosaic and stained glass – in all classic monumental painting techniques.

The book contains an illustrated treatment of monumental painting studies at the EKA in the three mentioned decades with documentary photographs and examples of works, shedding light on those happy times when students were able to realize their ideas in architecture. The lists contain information about artists who graduated from the specialty of monumental painting and their diploma theses, as well as monumental paintings realized in architecture, along with photographs. The exhibition catalogue includes all exhibited works, both designs and works executed in the material, also as thumbnails.

The fate and status of monumental painting today is also under observation. Alongside Kai Kaljo's essay based on memories, opinions will be expressed in a discussion group of painters led by Gregor Tauli, where artists representing different generations will talk about monumental painting as a separate field, its possibilities and place in the future, drawing on personal experiences.
